Algorithmic shape modeling with subdivision surfaces

چکیده
We present methods for synthesizing 3D shape features on subdivision surfaces using multi-scale procedural techniques. Multi-scale synthesis is a powerful approach for creating surfaces with different levels of detail. Our methods can also blend multiple example multi-resolution surfaces, including procedurally defined surfaces as well as captured models. r 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Subdivision Surface Tesselation on the Fly using a versatile Mesh Data Structure
Subdivision surfaces have become a standard technique for freeform shape modeling. They are intuitive to use and permit designers to flexibly add detail. But with larger control meshes, efficient adaptive rendering techniques are indispensable for interactive visualization and shape modeling. In this paper, we present a realization of tesselation-on-the-fly for Loop subdivision surfaces as part...
متن کاملA Survey of Subdivision-Based Tools for Surface Modeling
Subdivision surfaces have emerged as a powerful representation for surface modeling and design. They address important limitations of traditional spline-based methods, such as the ability to handle arbitrary topologies and to support multiscale editing operations. In this paper we survey existing subdivision-based modeling methods with emphasis on interactive tools for styling and decoration of...
متن کاملCatmull-Clark Subdivision Surfaces with Smoother Extra-ordinary Points
Subdivision surfaces have become popular recently in graphical modeling, animation and CAD/CAM because of their capability in capability in modeling/representing complex shape of arbitrary topology [5]. See Figure 1(b) for the representation of a ventilation control component with a single subdivision surface. The control mesh of the surface is shown in (a). The ventilation control component ha...
متن کاملIntroducing Sweep Features in Modeling with Subdivision Surfaces
In recent times, subdivision surfaces have been considered a powerful representation for shape design. They have been successfully introduced in character animation software packages. In the last few years they have obtained greater attention also from CAD applications due to their potential in overcoming some of the problems intrinsic of spline-based modeling. Anyhow, their major drawbacks are...
متن کاملCompression for Smooth Shape Analysis
Most 3D shape analysis methods use triangular meshes to discretize both the shape and functions on it as piecewise linear functions. With this representation, shape analysis requires fine meshes to represent smooth shapes and geometric operators like normals, curvatures, or LaplaceBeltrami eigenfunctions at large computational and memory costs. We avoid this bottleneck with a compression techni...
